The Impromptu Trip That Didn't Go as Planned

We had a list of potential places we could check out during our 36.5 hours in LA. Like all of our other trips, we said we would figure it out there but even the bits and pieces we planned throughout our trip didn't go the way we expected.

1. The Comedy Store

The only place that was on our itinerary was The Comedy Store, and we both agreed it was our favorite part. I've never heard of The Comedy Store before, but I just love laughing and stand up comedy so this was perfect. We didn't want to sit in the front in fear that we might get roasted, but we were seated right in front and center. (The only time I got called out was by Harland Williams for not laughing) This was so much better than I had expected, and it was such a cool experience because it was so intimate and I got to know more comedians.

2. Breakfast

I love eggs, and Eggslut was in Grand Central Market so we wanted to check it out. We’re both early birds so we usually don’t have to wait for any breakfast place, but there was a super long line at Eggslut at 8:30AM! Instead of waiting in line, we went to Wexler’s Deli and their lox bagel was SO GOOD. Kye’s go-to bagel is the lox bagel, so I’ve tried a bite every time he got one, and this was by far my favorite.

3. DTLA

I’ve always wanted to check out LA’s art museums, so The Broad was on our list. We couldn’t get GA tickets because by the time we decided to come to LA, it was too late. When we checked out the stand by line an hour prior to opening, there was already a line! It’s kind of funny how quickly we gave up, and went to the Walt Disney Concert Hall across the street (which was also closed).

The Art Walk was also closed, so we went to the Bradbury building (which was right in front of Grand Central Market). I’m so glad we went because it was so much prettier in person. And we went to The Last Bookstore. I’m not sure why everyone only takes photos at the arch (I’m guilty of this) and the circular book hole at the bookstore because there were so many cute spots inside.

Random fun fact: I just realized that for some reason, we go to a bookstore every time we have our BCA, but we always only checkout the same genres.

4. Virginia Robinson Gardens

Kye said he wanted to go to a botanical garden, so we wanted to go to this one because I’ve never heard of it. There was a reason to that—access is by appointment only. So we walked around the residential area of Beverly Hills, and tried to get photos with the palm trees. The photos turned out great, but there were cars every time we tried to take photos. It’s like they were waiting for us to get on the streets.

5. Griffith Observatory

I wanted to take Kye to Griffith Observatory because he had never been, and I thought he would appreciate sunset and LA’s skyline. There was so much smog that we couldn’t even see DTLA, and so many people. So. Many. People. In my defense it’s been awhile since I visited. Anyways, we both aren’t a fan of touristy places so we caught the sunset in the Uber ride down.

Despite the few bumps during our trip, I really enjoyed our short trip and I don’t regret any of it. Would I go back to LA? Not anytime soon, but I would love to go back to check out the museums and go to The Comedy Store again.

One more thing, LA traffic is no joke.
